Basic(Elementary) Mathematics
Change Improper to Mixed Fraction and v.v.
Improper to Mixed
- Divide the numerator by its denominator (Quotient and Remainder).
- The quotient will the whole number part and the Remainder will be the numerator of the fraction part, the denominator will remain.
Example: Convert \( \frac{7}{3}\) to its equivalent mixed fraction.
- Divide numberator by its denominator 7÷3 = 2 r. 1
- \( \frac{7}{3} = 2 \frac{1}{3}\)
Mixed to Improper
- Multiply the denominator and whole part
- Add the product to the numerator and the answer will be the new numerator, the denominator remain thesame.
Example: Convert \( 2 \frac{1}{3}\) to its equivalent Improper fraction.
- Multiply denominator and the whole part 2x3 = 6
- Add to numerator: 6 + 1 = 7
- \( 2 \frac{1}{3} = \frac{7}{3}\)
